Richard Benjamin Messinger, M.D.

Dr. R. Ben Messinger joined Charlottesville Interventional Pain Management in 2011 bringing with him a strong background in both anesthesiology and advanced pain management. Dr. Messinger completed his undergraduate studies at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) before earning his Doctor of Medicine from West Virginia University. He went on to complete his internship at West Virginia University Hospitals, followed by a residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Virginia Health System. He remained at UVA to complete a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine. He is board certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.


Throughout his training, Dr. Messinger earned numerous honors, including:
• Induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society
• Academic Scholarship to West Virginia University School of Medicine
• Annual Resident Teaching Award from the Mulholland Society, UVA School of
Medicine
• American Pain Society Scholarship: Fundamentals of Pain Medicine – A Primer
for Residents and Fellows
• Medtronic Neuromodulation Pain Education Fellowship Award Grant Recipient


Dr. Messinger is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s unique needs. His clinical interests include fluoroscopically guided procedures, spinal implant systems, and the use of emerging techniques to help patients improve function and reduce chronic pain.
